Orphaned Kitten generating heat?

We found this kitten in our driveway five days ago and we had already been talking about getting a new kitten since our other two are getting so old (15 and 17 years old) so with no sign of the momma and the kitten was cold and stiff and its litter-mate had already passed on so we threw a warm towel on him out of the dryer and rushed him to our vet. They rushed him in back and fixed him all up a couple of hours later they called us and gave us the green light saying he was perfectly healthy just a little too cold and dehydrated which they gave him a couple of shots and some a/d and no fleas or mites or worms or anything like that and schooled us that he was 3 weeks old (this was five days ago lol) and that he is a male and HUNGRY lol so we did a big shopping trip..all kinds of stuff…bottles…nipples…towels…more a/d some bacteria stuff…cotton balls…kmr already made and the powder..a funnel…allll kinds of stuff lol after a couple tries with the bottle and a few nipples thrown out WE GOT HIM eating lol keeping him super warm…heating pad and towels wrapped around it..everything is going great..the other cats are like…who…are you..but seem to forget about him when we’re playing and/or feeding them lol or when they are sleeping…or drinking…so they pretty much only pay attention when they are close to him..he’s doing awesome! He drinks like crazy he is gaining weight steadily..he is fully functional running jumping sleeping pooping eating…playing..meowing…he trusts us and loves to explore …his ears pulse when he has a really good suction on the bottle is so cute and..he looks at us in the eyes and rubs his face against our faces..we’ve crate trained him so when he falls asleep we pick him up and stick him in there…never with the door closed unless we both have to leave the room…and he can walk out when he wakes up..the pet heating pad is in there under towels it keeps it warm plus the room isn’t exactly cool lol being june…his ears move 180 degrees it seems like lol both at different times…I’ve looked up EVERYTHING..I want him to have the best life…touching his feet…his gums..grooming him..he’s used to it all now..and we’re just starting litter training..which we’ve gotten him to meow when he wants to be put into his pooping/peeing spot but we just cant decide on the litter we should use and I want to know when he’ll be able to survive without our heat to sustain him.

So just to review my two questions are

When can he generate enough energy to meow, play, sleep,go to the bathroom…and still have enough body heat? I dont want to end up smothering him with hands and blankets for more than he needs.

Second is which litter do I use? Everything I read and the vet says to start litter training now but every litter I read says DO NOT use for kittens under the age of 8 weeks

I’m just up late tonight with the baby and wondering about these questions….I will be calling the vet and asking in the morning but just wondering tonight because those are the two questions I can’t find anything on…when I type it in…it always just says use what ever brand of litter you want…and that they can’t generate enough heat themselves…I’m like I KNOW lol…so please help yahoo answer people…hope I’ve given enough info lol

Oh also..he’s all black with barely visable brown stripes around his neck..no other markings..still blue eyes from birth..cant wait to see his eye color…we still haven’t agreed on a name…I want to call him Wabbit…like elmer fudd…cuz we call all our cats our little bunny kitties…and bunny as a name doesn’t work for him..and neither does rabbit…but Wabbit does…and my fiance wants to call him batman…because of the ear pulsing thing..and it fits…batman’s ears are attached to the top of the costume and when he looks down he has to tilt his head and the ears point down too just like cats…but do we really want a cat named batman? lol
